Earthquake Update (translated) - 01 June 2009
Hello.. well, of course everything here has been a bit shaky, and the boys were pretty scared for a while. When it happened, the boys woke up scared and they all came downstairs and waited in the living room area.. we talked for a while about it and then they went back to bed. Some went back to sleep right away and others couldn't close their eyes the rest of the night. They all got to sleep in a little the next day though, because the government cancelled school all over the country. The Casa del Nino did suffer some damage, but thankfully nothing too serious. Some of the walls have cracks in them, but I will check on the whole building and get bnack to you on the extent of it all. The whole country mourns the loss of the 9 people who died and the many buildings that were destroyed or heavily damaged. ( hospitals, schools, houses, hotels) Here in San Pedro Sula, the worst damage was to our new Court House, as well as some fires in some of the neighborhoods around the city. And of course, the major bridge that connects us witht he next city, El Progresso, has collapsed, leaving us with no way of getting there. After the big quake, we have had several afterschocks, but they have been smalller. I hope God continues to help us and that the situation does not get any worse.
God is Good,
